Soy Sauce Ice Cream Invented in Japan

Read it.

Whenever I read a science fiction story that involves aliens, especially alien societies, I have hard time buying it unless the aliens are at least as strange as the Japanese.

I used to work at a Japanese firm, and many of my then-collegues would return to Japan regularly. When they came back to the States, they would bring some of their native snacks and/or foods and leave them out in the cafeteria for us gaijin to sample. My least favorites were squid-, fish-, and clam-flavored crackers.

Soysauce ice cream doesn’t surpise me in the least.
