The French gave up Michigan and all their forts in the first Treaty of Paris in 1763. Thereafter it was British until the second Treaty of Paris in 1783 when they ceded the Indian Reserve (which included Michigan) to the US. The Indian Reserve later became the Northwest Territory in 1787.
So I suppose the Indians, British, or French could press claims for Michigan depending on how far back you want to go. However, the same could be said for Texas, which was variously owned by the Indians, Spanish, and Mexicans. (Actually, one could reasonably conclude that it’s rapidly being taken back de factoby the Mexicans…)

Silly me, I hadn’t realized there was doubt.

Technically we’d only have to give back the original 13 colonies. Mexico has pretty much already reclaimed Kalifornia.
A lot of problems solved by unloading that mess.
Any chance the French would take back Michigan?

Snicker. Mexico hasn’t claimed any part of the US, as is proven by the millions of Mexicans here for the express purpose of getting away from Mexico.
