The traditional, thin plastic bag, though increasingly demonized and taxed, has better environmental performance and is likely to be considerably safer for human health than alternatives.

I remember an environmental realist who would ask the crowd, “How many of you buy milk?” (Lots of hands go up) “Now, how many of those are willing to buy milk in used containers?” (All but 1 or 2 hands go down) “Now you understand why it’s difficult to recycle all of your plastic waste.”
