Can we transport food like Internet data? Foodtubes says yes

I have my doubts. The problem with this proposal is the problem with any proposal that seeks to substitute a highly-centralized, highly-capital-intensive ‘efficient’ system for the decentralized, low-capital ‘inefficient’ system we’ve got today. Sure, the system is efficient — if NOTHING CHANGES. But things do change, often very quickly, and changing a highly-centralzied, highly-capital-intensive system is VERY EXPENSIVE. Who pays? Why, you do; these guys never pony up their own money. Oh, sure, they’ll talk about ‘public investment’, but all that means is ‘taxpayer fleecing’. Ideas on how you ought to pay for their fantasies are never in short supply.
