Read it. Is reading dead? If you think so, what are you doing here?
The unspoken assumption of this article (and who would think anything else of the New Yorker?) “reading” means “reading literary fiction”, in which (of course) Brahmin rags like the New Yorker have a natural interest.
But the reading needed to operate computers is in fine shape; in fact, the Internet has led to a great revival of reading among those who would otherwise be sitting slack-jawed in front of the Toob.
