    The thing that has always amazed me about Charles is that he persists in thinking the rules don’t apply to him. We have no way of knowing whether William would be more like his father (and I’m sorry to say, his mother) or like his grandmother, but she is the best example he could possibly for how to do it right.

    One might suggest putting the whole “king” thing to a vote, but then look how badly that turned out here.

    If one is prepared to throw out the idea that the king should be the next person in line, why in the world would you consider William? He has a claim to it only because Charles has a prior claim.

    The same argument that Burke used to support the Glorious Revolution: The law of succession wasn’t repealed, just tweaked somewhat. In this case it would be the equivalent of a Writ of Acceleration, whereby a peer’s heir is called to Parliament in his place because he’s non compos mentis; the parallel is pretty exact.
