Mario Vargas Llosa Wins Nobel Prize in Literature!
7th October 2010
Don’t bother to read it.
Who?, I hear you ask. And well you might.
There have been 110 Nobel laureates in literature; I have heard of only 26 of them. This is about on a par with the East Coast NASCAR Championship title; no doubt very significant to a narrow circle, but utterly without value to the general population. Mr Nobel, your money is being wasted.

Vargas Llosa is a Libertarian.

I’m sure that there are many libertarians of whom I have never heard — indeed, of whom very few people have heard. I’m still unconvinced that such people are rational candidates for a prize in literature where, say, Tom Wolfe apparently is not.
