Well, when governments refuse to perform their essential function, people have to take matters into their own hands. Whenever you get a proliferation of private security services, it indicates that the government is falling down on the job.

Funny how any time someone successfully defends himself against a criminal, resulting in the death of said criminal, the hand wringing starts about how it will lead to “greater violence” or a “cycle of violence.” They never stop to consider the potential deterrent effect on other criminals.
