We have seen the future, and it sucks.

Why Not Hybrid Instead of Electric Cars in the 2030s?

17th April 2023

Steve Sailer speaks sense to senility.

The Biden Administration wants to mandate that 67% of all new cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks sold in the U.S. in 2032 will be electric (only) vehicles.

It’s worth remember that we have had for the last 20 years a proven technology for using less gasoline without all the annoyance and anxiety of being dependent on recharging frequently rather than filling up once a week for ten minutes: the hybrid.

Exactly so. I would never buy an all-electric car–the disadvantages are just too great–but I can’t see myself buying a non-hybrid car in the future–the advantages are just too great, and the prices have come down so much that any premium charged over an all-gas car is trivial.

Trust the government to do the wrong thing when the right thing is staring them in the face.

Anyone want to buy a RX400 hybrid that worked perfectly until it bricked at a gas station? I live in a community where everyone has a shop, but nobody has a clue about this hybrid. We paid a premium to get it and found out about the penalty if you try to sell it, nobody want your used batteries. You transport around 2 drive systems instead of one, we didn’t come close to saving on gas what we spent on the hybrid ” upgrade”. Mrs Benz had an electric car, they are not new technology.

Buying a hybrid is foolish; I lease mine, which sticks the dealer with the residue. I drive a Hyundai Ioniq, which hasn’t given me a minute’s trouble. I typically get 45-50 mpg, and the 11-gal tank gives me over 500 mi range. The torque is fantastic, and I can now take advantage of holes in traffic that before I could only gaze at loningly.

    Your mileage may differ….
