The Hindenburg suffered from problems that weren’t understood at the time but now are. That wouldn’t happen again. Hydrogen is pretty safe to use for buoyancy in airships these days so long as the builders get the engineering right.
That being said, I distrust using hydrogen for fuel because like any gas it needs to be stored under pressure, which I feel makes it inherently dangerous. Pierce the container (and there is no container that is immune from piercing) and bad things follow.
