Why Don’t Rich People Just Stop Working?
15th September 2021
n certain expensive neighborhoods of the city, it is not uncommon to see how at certain hours of the night the inhabitants often arrive, they have time to have dinner, maybe give their children a kiss, but little else. Instead, they do not stop coming in high-end cars and live in houses that require a good part of their income to pay for and maintain them. Despite their high standard of living, spacious home in a good area, great car, private or concerted school, home service, vacations, they do not stop working and are considered middle class.
Not for one to think, why do they work so hard if they already have everything? Isn’t it time for them and their descendants to enjoy life? And why are they still considered middle class? Well, let’s say it’s complex. But it depends mainly on the meritocracy and the new super-rich.
I would say rather that they don’t ‘work’ so much as they have ‘occupations’. ‘Work’ is what you do to earn your bread; ‘occupation’ is what you do all day, which may involve just as much effort but is something that, if you stopped doing it, you wouldn’t necessarily miss a meal.
