One Response to “Daschunds and corgis have common ancestor”
I asked Gillie about this and she gave me a pained look. She said, “You know, I’m polite to the *i* Teufel *i* dogs like the dachshund and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, the ones with the bowed legs, whenever I meet them on a walk. But you have only to look at my straight, strong legs to see that I’m not descended from one of those!” Oh, of course not. And it’s true her legs are straight even while chondroplastic. She went on to explain the Pembroke Welsh Corgis differ from Cardis by having as their ancestors various Nordic breeds such as the Schipperke and the Pomeranian, and she will not believe otherwise until someone comes up with studies of the much more recent ancestry of Pems. Maybe even not then. Herding dogs are stubborn.
