Severian does some analysis.
What I’m really talking about, kameraden, is The Enlightenment. All of Western Civ’s “code” seems to work on paper. Hell, lots of it works in practice, since White folks are nothing if not problem solvers. We’ve got entire sections of the flowchart — modules or subroutines or whatever they’re called — that run perfectly, or close enough. And we’re always so tantalizingly close to getting the whole thing tied together… except that, when we type RUN in the command prompt line, it keeps crashing, because the code we’ve been writing could only work in a different world than the one we live in.
