I thought that legalizing marijuana was supposed to end drug violence…?

The interesting thing about legalizing weed is that the whole sales pitch is “look what we can do with all that revenue”. And don’t kid yourself; the only reason government officials like legalization is that they want their hands on that cash.

However, once the gov’t gets into the picture, they levy a big tax on it and set the prices – exactly as they have done with booze. They also add a f***-ton of regulations (like having to count the number of stems that get disposed) and the usual corresponding paperwork.

Moonshiners didn’t go out of business because Prohibition ended. (Bars send them empty booze bottles. They fill them with moonshine. Use it for making mixed drinks and the patrons have no clue.)

Marijuana is no different. The same guys growing it illegally before are now growing it illegally to undercut the government regulated stuff’s prices. And the gov’t response is the same: NOBODY IS ALLOWED TO BE A BIGGER THIEF THAN THE GOVERNMENT. (For a good example from the past, google “Capone, Al”.) So now there’s no more lawlessness and violence? Ummm, nope. It just moved around a bit.
