The Flood of Immigrants Into Italy Has Officially Resumed

Now that Matteo Salvini is no longer Interior Minister, and the Lega has no part in crafting policies on refugees, the Italian government is once again allowing the “rescue” ships belonging to NGOs — including some of the same ones interdicted by Mr. Salvini last year — to land in Italian ports.
The reason Ned puts ‘rescue’ in scare-quotes is that they don’t do actual rescues — they collude with migrant smugglers in a process whereby migrants go offshore in boats that would never make it across the Med, and as soon as they are out of their original country’s territorial waters a boat from an activist NGO swoops down to ‘rescue’ them and carry them the rest of the way to Europe. It’s all a big scam to pack as many non-Europeans into the EU as possible.
