As I’ve been pointing out for years, while our culture is obsessed with terror that blacks might not be getting enough screen time, even though they’ve gotten their share of roles in movies and TV shows for quite a few decades now, virtually nobody cares that nobody cares about Latinos.

Worked in a refinery in which the black women sued the company for discrimination against minority women. The company settled out of court with some lame promotions (You can do the same job you’ve been doing, but we’ll change the title and give you a small pay increase). But the lawsuit caused huge problems because the Hispanic women refused to join in the suit. The reason – according to the ones I talked to – was that they believed they would have to lie on the witness stand in order to win. The Hispanic women were thereafter referred to (carefully) as “coconuts” (brown on the outside, white on the inside). Only the fact that the majority of the operators were men, and thus diluted the interaction between women, kept things under control.

Would that all the world were white on the inside. We wouldn’t have so many problems.

The blacks are their pets. They want their pets taken care of.
