Ask your neighbors: “OK, you put all that stuff into the recycle bin (or bins). Now, what happens to it?” Invariably they will reply, “It gets recycled.” Now ask, “Into what?”, and watch their faces go blank. They honestly don’t know. As long as someone tells them that “recycling” is saving the planet, they are perfectly happy to put things in a labeled bin and feel good about themselves.
Same holds true for social programs. “My taxes fund Welfare so that I’ve done my bit to help poor people.” (And CPS takes care of abused and neglected children, etc.)
99.99% of the public will never look behind the curtain and as what’s going on with their money.
