DYSPEPSIA GENERATION

We have seen the future, and it sucks.

Wikipedia Isn’t Officially a Social Network. But the Harassment Can Get Ugly.

11th April 2019

Even the New York Times has noticed.

Aspiring contributors gathered at Columbia College Chicago to learn how to write and edit articles on Wikipedia. The event was organized by Art+Feminism, a campaign to improve the site’s representation of women and nonbinary individuals.Danielle Scruggs for The New York Times.

    “nonbinary”?

    Analog?

I was accused of being “binary” by a woman who at that time was a school teacher. (The discussion had nothing to do with school, but I mention it because these are the folks teaching the next generation – God help us.) I had to ask for her definition and she said, “You think things are either good or bad.” Still confused, I probed as to why that was a problem. “The right way to think is that everything is acceptable and it’s all just flavors we may or may not like as much. You know, “open minded”.” My response was that anyone who has no opinion about any subjects must never actually think about any of those subjects. An analytical mind will evaluate the world around them and make solid decisions based on critical thinking. Eating arsenic is, in fact, very bad. She grew frustrated, threw up her hands, and walked away saying, “See, that’s how you people are!”

Yes, that’s how we are. We think and we make decisions, to paraphrase Tyrion Lannister.

Because of thinking, I know that the nonbinary in the quote really means “I may just f*** anything, living or dead”, and isn’t really the same idea as my former accuser, but it prompted my thoughts.
