Think of the number of boots!!

Since nutria invaded southern marshes, alligators have benefitted extremely well. Crocodiles will kill a large animal and rip off parts. Alligators generally like to eat those things that make a single meal. Nutria eat anything, breed like rats (they are, essentially, giant muskrats), and swim around in the same areas inhabited by alligators. It’s like surviving for hundreds of millions of years has finally paid off with a meal plan. Texas pushed for an alligator hunting season to try to cut down on the number of animals turning up in the wrong places. (Notably, having a large alligator crawl onto a dark road and wrecking the first car from the refinery shift change.) I remember hearing from the Texas Parks & Wildlife some years ago that there has never been a human death attributed to an alligator in Texas.
