Although why that’s a problem, they don’t say.

Look, the reason languages die out is that people don’t want to speak them any more. Languages are tools, nothing more. If your tool doesn’t work for you, you find a better one.

    I also hear that some species of animals may go extinct sometime in the future. That’s never happened before, has it?

    Not because the animals themselves decided to be something else. This is not a case where people are hunting down languages, killing them, and eating them.
