Texas Election: Beto O’Rourke Senate Loss Paves the Way for 2020 Presidential Bid

Only Democrats could think that losing an election sets you up for a presidential run.
Only a Voice of the Crust could be so delusional.

Congress->Failed Senate Bid->Presidency was Lincoln’s path; I can’t rule it out for O’Rourke.

I think the last presidential election and this mid-term election should be educational for the Republicans.
Should be. I doubt that it will be, based on the Party’s total inability to learn from anything. (e.g., Well, Bob Dole didn’t work out, so let’s try John McCain!)
Trump showed the huge and totally unsuccessful group of Republican candidates what had to be done in order to win the nomination. Then he showed what it took to beat a well funded and completely ruthless Hillary Clinton.
Beto’s threat of taking Cruz’ seat, backed by TONS of $$$ from California, forced Cruz into actually bothering to campaign to keep his spot.
Republicans, it’s not good enough to put up a candidate just because he’s been a party member for decades and hope that people will just not like the Dems! You have to take your message to the people and make them understand what you intend to do.

Lincoln got the Presidency because his opposition was divided over the slavery question. You had pro-slavery Democrats and anti-slavery Democrats who fought each other more than they fought the Republicans (which was a brand-new party that they didn’t see as a real threat).

Well, John McCain didn’t work out so let’s try Mitt Romney! You have a point.
