    This is simply untrue. Northstar of the super group Alpha Flight was gay in the 1980s. Invisible Kid and Brainiac 5 are a gay couple in the current Legion of Super-Heroes. The new Batwoman is lesbian. A version of the Rawhide Kid was gay a few years ago. I think there’s been a few others from the independents as well.

    Stan Lee’s forte was always hyperbolic advertising, not commitment to exact truth. Of course he’d claim to do something more impressive than it is. If there were any actual reporters in the twenty-first century — anybody in the mold of Lois Lane or Clark Kent — this story wouldn’t be being repeated so blithely.
