Researchers would be advised to visit the American Diabetes Association’s discussion groups. There you find real people dealing with the disease – or diseases, as the case may be – and comparing notes. Some folks are struggling and others are very successfully managing the disease. Classic Type 1 vs. classic Type 2 is basically “no insulin” vs. “insulin resistance”. It is, of course, possible to have both. But there are all sorts of nuances that make treatment different for subtypes.
Also, the internet and the bookstores are full of really, really bad diabetes information. Some of the “experts” are downright criminals. If anyone uses the terms “cure” or “reverse”, run away as fast as you can. Diabetes is largely genetic and if you aren’t restructuring DNA, you aren’t curing it.
