One Response to “How to Make a Survival Whistle From a Soup Can”
This would probably rank at the bottom of a list of your “Useful Information” posts.
What number of people per century get lost in the woods carrying a can lid and a nail? How many rescuers are listening for that shrill whistle?
More likely these days you just call somebody on the cell phone – or use the GPS app.
Or, in Texas, fire a few rounds off to let the search party know where you’re at.
Somewhere in a drawer I have a bright, orange whistle with a built-in light, magnifier (for starting fires), and a tiny compass that will tell you magnetic north within the nearest 90 degrees. I think the NRA sent it to me. I don’t do much wandering around in the forest, and don’t really expect anyone to come looking for me, but much like your can-top-survival-whistle, it seems to be too cool to toss out.
