Bernie Sanders: Donald Trump Won Because People Are Tired of Political Correctness
13th December 2016
“[Trump] said he will not be politically correct,” said Sanders. “I think he said some outrageous and painful things, but I think people are tired of the same old politically correct rhetoric. I think some people believe he was speaking from his heart and willing to take on everybody.”
Hayes then asked what political correctness means to Sanders. He responded:
“What it means is you have a set of talking points which have been poll-tested and focus-group-tested and that’s what you say rather than what’s really going on. And often what you are not allowed to say are things which offend very powerful people. For years and years we have been told by Republicans and many Democrats that our trade policy was a great idea, that it was working for America. The American people don’t believe it. The American people I think want candidates and politicians to have the guts to stand up to the billionaire class and start representing the middle class and working families of America. I don’t think it’s more complicated than that.”
Proof positive that even a blind pig can find an acorn every now and then.

‘Politically correct” means “otherwise incorrect”.

Hmmm…the theory breaks down when you realize that Bernie didn’t win the nomination even though he wasn’t “politically correct”.
Back to the drawing board…
There was a time, by the way, when “politically correct” was just called common courtesy, which seems to be sadly lacking in political discourse today.

There was never a time when ‘politically correct’ was merely ‘common courtesy’, except in the fever dreams of the Reality Deniers.

Bernie was the better candidate. Still not a good candidate, but a better one than Hillary. He wasn’t able to counter Hillary’s ability to corrupt the process.
PC is not an effort to be polite; it’s an effort to pretend that the world is different than reality.

That’s funny–most of the people I run into that complain about “politically correct” speech, when pressed, really mean that they want to say any crude, insulting thing that occurs to them regardless of the sensibilities of those around them.
But I guess you guys know better, since you define the term your own way.

@RealRick
If Bernie wasn’t able to counter Hillary’s ability to corrupt the process, how was Trump able to do so?
One cannot argue that a process delivers one result one time but the same process delivers a different result another time, all else being equal.
The theory still breaks down. Either something else was taking place that the theory doesn’t account for, or it’s just wrong.
