Although fasting diets have been criticised by nutritionists for being unhealthy, new research suggests starving the body kick-starts stem cells into producing new white blood cells, which fight off infection.
Scientists at the University of Southern California say the discovery could be particularly beneficial for people suffering from damaged immune systems, such as cancer patients on chemotherapy.

Having done chemo, I can attest that fasting for 3 days would be pretty easy. Picture having the flu and having your senses altered so that everything tastes like corroded tin foil.

rick is right; in fact, except for a couple of soda crackers and some stale ginger ale, I fasted after each of the twelve doses of chemo I was given. I had different chemo, I guess because everything tasted like vinyl.

I wish that my late first wife had know this, it would have made things a lot easier for her.
