Via Engadget: Apple rises in the Greenpeace ratings

1st July 2007

Item. I give up — somebody please tell me why anyone with two brain cells to rub together would give a rat’s ass about what their rating by Greenpeace is?

I DO. I think it’s important to change the corporate policy about the environment and Greenpeace is doing a good job to change the electronic industry to go Green.

    Okay, I’ll bite. Why?
    1. What do you mean by “the corporate policy”? Apple’s policy? or corporate policies in general?
    a. If it’s Apple’s policy you have a problem with, what specifically are they doing that you don’t like?
    b. If it’s corporate policies in general you have a problem with, do you have any specific knowledge about corporate policies in general, or are you just reacting to something you heard or read somewhere?
    2. In what way is Greenpeace “doing a good job”? Do you have any evidence that there is any direct connection between something Greenpeace has done and changes in the electronic industry practice?
I must confess to not having done any extensive research in this area, but the impression I get from the industry news I’ve read is that most people in the electronics industry consider Greenpeace a bunch of pain-in-the-ass wackos who have a certain nuisance value and so merit a certain amount of effort to buy them off with some feel-good window dressing, but they aren’t really taken seriously. That’s just my impression of course; YMMD.
