I prefer to eat my salad after it has been eaten by a cow and processed into beef.
A doctor told me years ago that he believed that a lot of illness in his patients was caused by eating salads. Pretty much everything else you eat is cooked, thus making it unlikely that bacterial contamination is present. Vegetables are often picked by migrant workers. Since they only get paid when they work, they tend to continue to work even when sick.
Of course one must consider that the doctor was pretty old at the time and based his belief on actual observations of his patients instead of following the proper path of combining pop-science with political correctness. (i.e., Disease is caused by white people and global warming.)
