Florida Sheriff Vows to Arrest Tim Cook If Apple Won’t Comply With Court Orders

Read it.

Yet another good reason to avoid Florida. (As if Disney weren’t enough.)

Bet he’s a Democrat.

Actually, if you google this guy, you’ll find that the election for sheriff in that county is nonpartisan. He has a reputation for speaking out and often gets bad press for that. Famously when asked why his SWAT team shot a criminal (who had killed a deputy) 68 times, the sheriff replied something to the effect of “..that’s all the bullets we had.”

The deal with phone encryption is NOT unlocking one phone with a subpoena. There’s no difference between having files on a phone or in your office, and the sheriff is right about that. As long as the Constitution is followed, there really shouldn’t be an issue. What’s happening now is that the Feds don’t want to open ONE phone; those bastards want the keys so they can open whatever they want and whenever they want, subpoenas and laws be damned!

An additional note on the subject: Snowden claims that the gov’t could decode that phone any time they want. Thinking about that, I’d have to say that it should be obvious that they have that capability, given that they have to deal with real spy rings and such.

But, again, this isn’t about one phone.
