Interesting guide. I prefer to just stay in Texas and avoid the problem entirely.
I did live in NY for a few miserable years and observed many people ice fishing. (Like softball, it’s more of an excuse for drinking and staying away from the family unit for awhile than it is an actual sport.) There are a surprising number of vehicles in the bottom of some of those lakes because guys seemed to believe that the ice was always the same thickness.
