The Ohio Republican Party censured Rep. Anthony Gonzalez, R-Ohio, and 9 other GOP representatives Friday for voting in February to impeach former President Donald Trump, in a nearly unanimous vote of the powerful central committee.

The vote made the Cleveland congressman the 8th of the 10 defectors to be rebuked or censured by a state or local party. Efforts against two others failed to take hold.

The resolution to censure that was approved by the committee called Trump’s second impeachment process meritless, unprecedented, unconstitutional and purposeless. Along a narrower vote, the committee also approved a second resolution, which hadn’t been on the agenda, calling on Gonzalez to resign.

Desalination membranes remove salt and other chemicals from water, a process critical to the health of society, cleaning billions of gallons of water for agriculture, energy production and drinking. The idea seems simple — push salty water through and clean water comes out the other side — but it contains complex intricacies that scientists are still trying to understand.

The research team, in partnership with DuPont Water Solutions, solved an important aspect of this mystery, opening the door to reduce costs of clean water production. The researchers determined desalination membranes are inconsistent in density and mass distribution, which can hold back their performance. Rep. Liz Cheney seems destined to lose her position in the GOP House leadership. One could almost infer from her actions that she’s determined to lose it.

The mainstream media is playing Cheney’s likely ouster for all its worth. Cheney is now portrayed as a hero who is too good for the current, Trump-dominated Republican Party. (These are some of the same lefty media stalwarts who portrayed Cheney’s father as evil, the way they now depict Donald Trump.)

Some conservatives are advancing a similar view of Liz Cheney’s situation. They acknowledge that her vote to impeach Trump and her subsequent anti-Trump screeds make her less than suitable for a leadership position in this GOP caucus. However, they contend that this reality damns the caucus.

Rich Lowry and Ramesh Ponnuru puncture that narrative. Lowry points out that Cheney survived her vote to impeach Trump, a fact that can’t easily be reconciled with claims that the caucus is in the thrall of Donald Trump.

It’s not the impeachment vote that will likely cost Cheney her position, it’s her constant stream of anti-Trump pronouncements. As Lowry puts it, “all [Cheney] had to do was be a little politic — something often required of politicians — and she wouldn’t be on the verge of getting dumped from leadership.” I would add that being “a little politic” is almost always a requirement for members of leadership.

A single mistake in journalism can be forgiven. Perhaps the story was based on faulty information from a bad source and rushed through without a thorough vetting — probably due to a desire to be first to report — and then transparently corrected for the audience. But if the same mistake is repeated, over and over again, by the same news outlets who have taken leave of their basic journalistic duties, then alternative motives have to be explored. Something nefarious on behalf of these organizations and their sources may be afoot.

Since Joe Biden’s election, there have been three major instances of journalists publishing a story, watching it trend for days on social media and be discussed on cable news, only for it to be partially or completely retracted later. Damage done. The latest case involved Rudy Giuliani allegedly being warned by FBI sources that he was briefed on being a target for Russian intelligence campaigns. Like other similar stories it followed a particular pattern — story breaks, other news outlets ‘confirm’ story with anonymous sources, story falls apart, outlets suffer reputational damage. NBC News, the Washington Post and the New York Times were the perpetrators this time (as they so often are).

They don’t consider it a mistake, any nore than Goebbels considered any of his lies a mistake, They are pushing a political agenda, which means eyeballs and clicks, and they know (as many do not) that everybody reads the news but nobody reads ‘corrections’ except white supremacists.

Vice President Kamala Harris is not historically very popular. Her approval rating rarely topped 40 percent during her campaign in the Democratic presidential primary. Her poll numbers sagged in her home state of California. It wasn’t until Biden chose her as his running mate that Harris enjoyed consistently higher approval ratings, but even as of April of this year, her unfavorability ratings were just about as high.

Despite being pretty unlikable (and as that nervous laugh suggests, awfully inauthentic), Harris has managed to maneuver herself into arguably the most powerful position in the country. If she does eventually run for president, who would be her base? Who actually likes Kamala Harris?

I’m sure Trump does. I’m sure he’s praying that she runes for President.

I have posted two previous editions of footnotes to our coverage of the trial of Derek Chauvin for the death of George Floyd. My purpose here is to provide background on the legal issues in the case for those who seek to understand them. If you are certain that the issues constitute nothing more than a smokescreen for a predetermined outcome, these footnotes are not for you.

More than 180 years ago, John Quincy Adams gave a speech to mark 50 years since the presidential inauguration of George Washington. “If the day should ever come, (may Heaven avert it) when the affections of the people of these states shall be alienated from each other; when the fraternal spirit shall give away to cold indifference, or collisions of interest shall fester into hatred,” he told a New York audience, “far better will it be for the people of the disunited states, to part in friendship from each other, than to be held together by constraint.” Collisions of interest festering into hatred? That sounds familiar. The Trump years were famously light on fraternal spirit and, as the divisions deepened, “parting in friendship” started to look awfully attractive to a growing number of Americans.

The news that six states will gain seats in the House of Representatives and another seven will lose seats, thanks to new census numbers, was widely reported.

What was missed, though, is that the inclusion of noncitizens, including illegal aliens, in the population used to determine apportionment means that many Americans—and states—are being defrauded of their fair share of representation in Congress.

Nothing new here. The infamous ‘three-fifths rule’ in the original Constitution was the result of haggline between the slave states, who wanted to include noncitizen nonvoting black slaves for representation purposes, thereby increasing their clout in the House of Representatives, and the non-slave states, who wanted to count only citizens.

For over 2 million family farms and ranches across the country and the tens of millions of small businesses, the threat of losing generations of their family’s work is a very real possibility. Every day family-owned farms and small businesses are forced to take out loans or sell off land, equipment, property, or — in the worst-case scenario — the entire business operation to pay the federal estate tax and cover attorney fees.

In addition, the death tax forces family businesses to waste money on expensive insurance policies and estate planning. These burdensome compliance costs make it even harder for and deter business owners from expanding their businesses and creating more jobs.

Ideally, the purpose of a tax is to raise revenue for the government. To0 often, it is used as a stick to beat politically unfashionable groups to satisfy the envy of the underclass clients of the ruling class.
