Liberals, Media Love to Hate Rich, But Billionaires Have Made a Difference

26th November 2019

Read it.

Liberals and the media love to hate billionaires — but without them, where would the world be today? This Thanksgiving season, we can remember some of the contributions America’s billionaires have made to impact society. People like Charles and David Koch, Bernard Marcus and Frederick W. Smith are among a billionaire class of individuals that have drawn the ire of the liberal media and some Democratic Party presidential candidates, but little coverage is given to their extensive history of philanthropy.

Woke Antiquarianism, Feminism, and Inheritance

26th November 2019

Steve Sailer.

I’ve been pointing out for a number of years the striking growth in antiquarianism among opinion-molders. E.g., the NYT’s “1619” crusade, the constant invocations of redlining in the middle of the 20th Century, Emmett Till’s murder in 1955, etc etc.

Not that long ago, in contrast, the media’s version of history more or less started sometime between JFK’s assassination and the Beatles’ appearance on the Ed Sullivan show.

Twenty Crazy Beliefs on Economics and Politics

26th November 2019

Don Boudreaux, a Real Economist, is not afraid to ask the hard questions.

  1. Why do so many American Progressives, fearing that rich people abuse state power, aim to reduce the riches of rich people, instead of the state power that Progressives admit is subject to being abused?
  2. Why do so many American Progressives wish to put even larger swathes of our lives under political control given their belief that politics is so very easily corrupted by oligarchs and big-money donors?
  3. Why do so many American Progressives – fearful of corporate power and understandably dismayed by cronyism – support tariffs and export subsidies (such as those dispensed by the U.S. Export-Import Bank)? After all, each tariff and every cent of subsidy is an unearned privilege granted by government to corporations at the expense of consumers, workers, and households – a privilege that creates corporate power and fuels abuse by corporations that would otherwise not arise.
  4. Why do so many American Progressives, with one breath, criticize free-market economists for allegedly failing to take account of the immense importance that we humans attach to community, cultural identity, and other non-monetary values and features of our existence, and yet with the next breath talk as if the only inequality that matters is inequality of monetary incomes or wealth? (That this “Progressives” criticism of free-market economists is baseless is a subject for another day.)
  5. And why do so many American Progressives, given their correct understanding that monetary values are not all that matter, treat differences in monetary incomes and wealth as sure evidence of economic malfunction?

Media Check Our Thanksgiving Privilege, Tout ‘Day of Mourning’

25th November 2019

It’s that time of year again, when the cold bitter truth about our wretched Thanksgiving holiday must be brought to the surface. Rather then let today’s Americans celebrate a day of gratitude for our blessed lot in life in this successful, multicultural country, we must fixate on North America’s first bloody instances of identity politics.

What we call ‘Thanksgiving’ is the traditional English harvest festival of Martinmas, although they couldn’t call it that because Protestants don’t have saints, so pop a ham in the oven and let the Scraelings do their Cultural Appropriation somewhere else.

The first migrant deported under the Trump administration’s new asylum program with Guatemala opted to go back to his home county instead, an indication of how other asylum seekers may respond to the policy.

Despite claiming to be fearful of returning to his home country of Honduras, Erwin José Ardón Montoya — when given the choice of receiving asylum protection and a job in Guatemala — opted instead to go back to his village, according to The Associated Press.

Ukrainian Mysteries

25th November 2019

ZMan scratches his head.

One of the puzzles to the impeachment stuff is why certain elements of the ruling class think this is a productive use of their time. The impeachment show put on by the Democrats last week struck most people as boring and weird. It was mostly a parade of people with funny sounding names babbling about insider baseball. There was also the fact that the guy appointed to be the master of ceremonies gives people the creeps. Adam Schiff looks like frog peeping through the ice. He is a very odd man.

One of the most telling arguments against democracy as a political system is a close examination of the sort of people that get elected to Congress. Any political system under which Sheila Jackson Lee or Alcee Hastings is chosen to take part in the creation of laws is obviously seriously defective.

Stop Being a Loser and Start Winning Like Trump — by Learning to Leave Your Lane

24th November 2019

Scott Adams.

Learn to think in microsteps. If you are experiencing couch lock, try wiggling one finger. Then build from there.

Hypnotists and entrepreneurs have overlapping thinking styles when it comes to motivating themselves to take action. When entrepreneurs don’t know how to get from A to B, they take the smallest step in that direction that is available to them, and then see if they can figure out the next one from that new starting point. Hypnotists who see humans as programmable entities understand that they have to start with small suggestions, such as “Your eyelids feel heavier” in order to work up to larger actions, such as “Your arm is so light it will start to float.”

Warren, Sanders, and Biden Preach Diversity, They Don’t Live It

24th November 2019

Read it.

Senator Bernie Sanders lives in a $476,000 colonial in Burlington VT. The house in New North End is one of three homes that he and his wife own. Burlington VT is 85% white and less than 5% black. Unlike the Old North End, which is diverse, the New North End has an older and more conservative population. The average household income is $80,000, and a number of the elected officials have been Republicans.

Despite Bernie’s socialist image, he chose to live in a white conservative suburban neighborhood where lefties are only slowly beginning to make inroads as younger couples start to move into the area.

Bernie’s vacation place in North Hero, Vermont, by Lake Champlain, is over 97% white and only 0.25% black. His 1890 rowhouse in Washington D.C.’s Stanton Park is in a somewhat more diverse area

Lie-a-watha

24th November 2019

John Hinderaker doesn’t like Elizabeth “Fauxcahontas” Warren very much.

Shrinking violets don’t become presidential contenders. Still, even at the highest level of overweening ambition, Elizabeth Warren stands out. She has clawed her way to the top by hook and by crook. One of her favorite techniques is the bald-faced lie. As an academic, she is best known for an article claiming that medical crises are largely responsible for personal bankruptcies. Warren’s article has been used (as she no doubt intended) to promote socialized medicine, but it has been thoroughly debunked. See Gail Heriot’s analysis in the Texas Review of Law & Politics, embedded below.

Former FBI agent Peter Strzok, who led the Bureau’s investigation into both the Hillary Clinton email scandal and what turned out to be the Russia hoax–simultaneously!–has sued the Attorney General over his ultimate dismissal from the Bureau. Foreign-Born Researchers at US Agencies Were Secretly Working for China and Recruiting Others, Senate Report Finds

22nd November 2019

Researchers linked to the Chinese government formed a Chinese cell within the Department of Energy, attained access to American genomic data, and recruited other U.S. researchers to join, the bipartisan report stated.

China’s Thousand Talents Plan (TTP) aims to get foreign governments to finance the communist power’s military and economy by buying off researchers who are doing work abroad. The experts apply to the program, and if approved by the Communist Party, they join China’s payroll and sign secret side agreements that the experts will share their research with that country, according to the investigation.

Everything You Need to Know About Trump (But Were Afraid to Admit You Wondered)

22nd November 2019

Read it.

About his strategy, I could make a quick and accurate analogy with medication: most pills are designed to cure a problem, but come with an array of secondary after-effects. Well, Trump is using medication solely for their after-effects, while the first intent of the pill is what’s keeping him in power and alive. By the end of this article, you’ll see that this metaphor applies for just about every decision, move or declaration he’s made. Once you understand what Trump is about, you’ll be able to appreciate the extraordinary presidency he’s conducting, like no predecessor ever came close to match.

Donald simply doesn’t care if you like him or not, which makes him the ultimate anti-narcissist, by its psychological definition. And that’s not even up for opinion, it’s a quite simple and undeniable fact.

Buttigieg and the Intersectional Blues

22nd November 2019

Read it.

While “Mayor Pete” rises in the polls in Iowa and New Hampshire, it is a delight to watch the media tiptoe around his very weak pull with black voters. The New York Times today ran a story headlined, “Pete Buttigieg is Struggling with Black Voters. Here’s Why.” Except the story never really tells you probably the biggest reason why: American blacks are highly hostile to homosexuality. This fact goes completely unmentioned anywhere in the Times story, no doubt because it would blow all the fuses at the Times‘s intersectionality switchboard.
