Steve Sailer understands the dialectic.
The latest Muslim massacre has driven the mainstream media absolutely berserk with fear and loathing…but not, though, of the Muslim terrorist who murdered 49 Latino gays in Florida. Instead, the bad guy is Donald Trump for having been demonstrated to be right about immigration policy.
…
Of course, Trump’s pragmatism was also calibrated to drive mad with rage the bipartisan Washington establishment that has grown rich off the conventional wisdom of Invade the World/Invite the World.

In the United States the June 12th mass shooting in Orlando Florida illustrates a problem the West in general and the U.S. in particular has in dealing with terrorist events. This problem transcends local politics and goes to the heart of the strategy used against Islamic extremists. How can the West fight against Islamic terrorist acts if so many political leaders will not even publicly identify the culprits as Islamic extremists. To deny the existence of an adversary’s religion and ideology ignores their prime motivating force. This willful denial of religious differences clearly clashes with the world view of the 21st Century secular West, where Political Correctness has become a form of secular inquisition. Current Western secular ideology ignores the power of religion, reducing conflict causes to mere economic and political differences. Religious and cultural aspects of conflict are ignored as inconvenient truths. The roots of this ignorance go back to the end of the Cold War.

Poland and the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) have asked for some American troops. Not enough to halt a Russian invasion, just enough to ensure that the Americans and their NATO allies (or at least some of them) will intervene if Russia does attack. These four nations already have a mutual defense guarantee from NATO in the form of NATO membership. But that is not enough and what has been asked for, and granted, are some American troops in each of these nations. Not many, there will only be one reinforced battalion per country. That means about 4,000 troops overall.
These four East European countries join a growing list of nations who, threatened by dangerous neighbors, have agreed (and often asked) to host American troops. The first and most obvious examples of this are South Korea, Japan and Germany, where the host nations even pay for some of the costs for the foreign troops to be there. This form of defense has been quietly followed by a number of nations in the Middle East, like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and the UAE (United Arab Emirates). All of these Persian Gulf nations want the Americans around to keep the Iranians out. But it is not just the Iranians. Inside Iraq there have been American troops in northern Iraq to protect the autonomous Kurdish majority up there from the Arab majority.

But now the bloodbath in Orlando could blow the rainbow coalition of the Democrats apart. One minority (Muslims) massacres another (LGBT) out of hate for the latter. Many of the victims were moreover Latinos, another group for whom liberals demand protection, for it was “Latin Night” at the Pulse. The perpetrator, Omar Mateen, is a second-generation Afghan immigrant with American citizenship. Clinton faces an unparalleled political balancing act. How can she relieve the growing anxiety of the gays over the importation of Islamic homophobia, when at the same time she supports the mass immigration of Muslims to America?
Liberals hasten to sidetrack the narrative; in his short statement, Obama attempts to draw a connection to gun laws. But did the strict European gun laws prevent the Islamic attacks in Paris and Brussels? What commercially available weapon runs around shooting or bombing while shouting “Allahu Akbar”? That the common denominator of San Bernardino, Bataclan and Maalbeek is the Islamic religious ideology common to the assassins, is becoming ever more difficult for the liberal deniers of reality to gainsay.

English three-word phrases. How cool is that?
The new system is devised by a British startup called What3Words, which has assigned a three-word phrase to every point on the globe. The system is designed to solve the an often-ignored problem of 75% of the earth’s population, an estimated 4 billion people, who have no address for mailing purposes, making it difficult to open a bank account, get a delivery, or be reached in an emergency. In What3Words’ system, the idea is that a series of words is easier to remember than the strings of number that make up GPS coordinates. Each unique phrase corresponds to a specific 9-square-meter spot on the map.
For example, the White House, at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, becomes sulk.held.raves; the Tokyo Tower is located at fans.helpless.collects; and the Stade de France is at reporter.smoked.received.
Mongolians will be the first to use the system for government mail delivery, but organizations including the United Nations, courier companies, and mapping firms like Navmii already use What3Words’ system.

Bog butter is just that: butter made from cow’s milk that’s been buried in a bog, though, after thousands of years, it often has the consistency of cheese.
It’s actually not that uncommon of a find for turf cutters in Ireland, either. As Smithsonian magazine noted, a 3000-year-old, one-metre wide barrel stuffed with 35kg of bog butter was found in 2009. Even more shocking, turf cutters found a 5000-year-old wooden “keg” containing 45kg of the butter in 2013.
People have actually been stumbling upon bog butter for at least two centuries. In the 1892 edition of The Journal of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland, Reverend James O’Laverty recounts finding a lump “which still retains the marks of the hand and fingers of the ancient dame who pressed it into its present shape,” and which he noted “tastes somewhat like cheese.”
Cue Irish jokes.

In 2011, the State Department cleared an enormous arms deal: Led by Boeing, a consortium of American defense contractors would deliver $29 billion worth of advanced fighter jets to Saudi Arabia, despite concerns over the kingdom’s troublesome human rights record. In the years before Hillary Clinton became secretary of state, Saudi Arabia had contributed $10 million to the Clinton Foundation, and just two months before the jet deal was finalized, Boeing donated $900,000 to the Clinton Foundation, according to an International Business Times investigation released Tuesday.
They have a pair of nice charts laying it all out.

“Enough talking about being tough on terrorism; actually be tough on terrorism. Stop making it as easy as possible for terrorists to buy assault weapons,” Obama said.
Obviously, Obama has never tried to buy an ‘assault weapon’. (Not that anybody would sell him one.) Besides, he wouldn’t pass the background check.
None of his proposals would make it more difficult for terrorists to get (not buy) ‘assault weapons’; they would just make it more difficult for normal Americans to buy such weapons to defend themselves.
‘Actually be tough on terrorism’ means getting rid of potential terrorists, who overwhelmingly happen to be (wait for it) Muslims.
(Student loonies who shoot up schools and movie theaters aren’t ‘terrorists’ — they have no political agenda, and aren’t trying to terrorize people — they’re just loonies.)

It was a race to see which Democrat politician could say it first.
Republicans’ refusal to consider tougher gun laws makes them “complicit” in the nation’s mass shootings, Democratic leaders charge in the wake of the shooting in Orlando.
“These 49 victims joined a long list of victims and families that are hurting because their Congress will stand for a moment of silence but do absolutely nothing,” Rep. Joe Crowley (N.Y.), vice chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, said Tuesday morning after a closed-door meeting of the group in the Capitol.
“They would rather these events just continue to happen, I guess. I don’t know what the answer is,” Crowley added.

“I’m alive today because of the Second Amendment and the natural right to keep and bear arms.” So declared John R. Salter Jr., the civil rights leader who helped organize the legendary non-violent sit-ins against segregated lunch counters in Jackson, Mississippi, in the 1960s. As Salter recalled it, he always “traveled armed” while doing civil rights work in the Jim Crow South. “Like a martyred friend of mine, NAACP staffer Medgar W. Evers, I, too, was on many Klan death lists and I, too, traveled armed: a .38 special Smith and Wesson revolver and a 44/40 Winchester carbine,” Salter wrote. “The knowledge that I had these weapons and was willing to use them kept enemies at bay.”

The 22-year-old woman was immediately detained after reporting the attack in mid-March and was held until her hearing, where she was given a one-year suspended sentence and reportedly fined 3,000 Qatari riyals (£564).
She has since been released to the care of the Dutch Embassy.

According to a report released by Oklahoma Watch last Tuesday, The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety purchased “Electronic Recovery and Access to Data” (ERAD) machines to assist law enforcement with seizing funds in asset forfeiture cases. Oklahoma has been struggling with frequent civil asset forfeiture abuses and it seems like state law enforcement are trying to step up the use of forfeiture rather than reforming it.
The devices allow officers to seize funds on debit cards from people that are suspected of drug trafficking but do not have cash present with them at the time.
…
If the process of civil asset forfeiture wasn’t already controversial enough, law enforcement decided to purchase these machines in order to seize a person’s funds out of his or her own private bank accounts without any additional due process. Officials claim that these devices are essential to hinder drug trafficking in the state.
Stay out of Oklahoma until this gets fixed.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has laid out a strategy for preventing reference to terrorism in association with Islam. They are targeting training and education for the military and law enforcement, and pursueing their strategy by working through NGOs, think tanks and international organizations to label as Islamophobes those counter-terrorism trainers who were not approved by specific front-organizations. This article looks at the most recent initiative in this campaign of political warfare: a report by the Muslim Public Affairs Council entitled Not Qualified: Exposing the Deception Behind America’s Top 25 Pseudo Experts on Islam.
As Sun Tzu pointed out, the greatest warrior is one who can win without having to fight. Political warfare—operations designed to influence the perceptions or beliefs of one’s adversary—is thus an invaluable tool because it is a way of winning a conflict without having to use force. The Soviets knew this well, as did numerous other totalitarian regimes, and the OIC is now using this form of attack to shut down crucial counter-terrorism experts and training in the United States. This meets both a theological and a strategic imperative for the OIC. Theologically, the campaign of psychological warfare against CT experts helps to shut down criticism of Muhammad and of Islam, which is deemed forbidden, based upon several different verses of the Koran. Strategically, it is an advantageous approach because it neutralizes those who have become most knowledgeable on the Islamist threat, thus allowing even greater impunity for agents working to undermine U.S. national security.

On CNN and Fox News, one politician after another professed to be “shocked” by the massacre in Orlando. “Who would have expected such a thing?” people kept asking. Actually, I’ve been expecting just such a thing for years. The only shock was that it took this long for some jihadist to go after a gay establishment.
Islamic law, after all, is crystal clear on homosexuality, though the various schools of sharia prescribe a range of penalties: one calls for death by stoning; another demands that the transgressor be thrown from a high place; a third says to drop a building on him. In Iran, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Sudan, Yemen, Mauritania, Pakistan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, as well as in parts of Nigeria, Somalia, Syria and Iraq, homosexuality is indeed punishable by death.
And yet homosexuals and feminists give Muslims a pass that they wouldn’t give their own countrymen. Gee, I wonder why?
Incredibly, many gays still don’t get this—or refuse to get it. They cling—mindlessly, one wants to say—to leftist ideology, which tells them that Muslims, like gays, are an official victim group, and thus their natural allies. They see Christians as their enemies—though even the most aggressively antigay Christians in America, namely the “God hates fags” crowd at the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, don’t go around killing anybody. Perversely, some gays support the BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanctions) movement, which demonizes the only gay-friendly country in the Middle East. Some even buy into the concept of “pinkwashing”—the inane assertion, promoted by radical lesbian playwright Sarah Schulman, that Israel advertises its own gay-positive values as a means of covering up its supposed oppression of Palestinians. On this day of horror, let’s hope that the jihadist massacre of 50 people in a gay club in Orlando finally awakens gay Americans to the brutal reality of Islam’s hatred for them.

An investigation by the Electronic Frontier Foundation has shed new light on an experimental tattoo recognition program run by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and raised serious questions about the privacy safeguards in place.
I don’t see how marks on your body come under the category ‘privacy’. ‘Advertising’ perhaps.
The tattoo project has two potential uses. A simple recognition system can use individual tattoos to identify specific suspects over time, supplementing fingerprints and simple facial photos. But more sophisticated systems will also be able to identify tattoo patterns that may suggest particular criminal affiliations. Law enforcement agencies already catalog specific tattoos associated with Russian mafia and white supremacist groups, and the FBI believes an automated system might help uncover previously unrecorded associations. “Tattoos provide valuable information on an individual’s affiliations or beliefs and can support identity verification of an individual,” one researcher wrote in a NIST whitepaper.
And, indeed, having a tattoo at all reflects a degree of narcissism that constitutes, in my view, a character flaw at least as significant as anything one might post on ‘social media’.
It’s that second use case that EFF finds most concerning, potentially standing as a threat to free expression. “Tattoos are free speech that we wear on our skin,” the group writes. “Our tattoos express who we were, who we are, and who we hope to be. But when law enforcement looks at our tattoos, they see unique biometric identifiers and a shortcut to learning our personal beliefs and our social connections.”
Well, if tattoos express ‘who we are’, I don’t see any legitimacy to objecting to it being used to ‘learning our personal beliefs and our social connections’. We have a right to free speech, but it you use your free speech to shout ‘I hate Jews!’ I’m going to presume that it reflects a personal belief and feel perfectly justified in not hiring or doing business with you. You can’t have it both ways, although there’s a lot of that going around these days.

This important legislation prevents the IRS from targeting non-profits by prohibiting the agency from collecting the identity of donors who contribute to these organizations. Members of Congress should vote yes on H.R. 5053.
Currently, the IRS requires non-profits to submit a schedule B form, listing the names and addresses of their donors. However, this form is not used by the IRS for any purpose. Given the increasing politicization within the agency, the existence of these forms is an “accident” waiting to happen.

The most feral and violent contingent of anti-Trump protestors appears to consist of unabashed Mexican supremacists falsely accusing Trump of being a white supremacist. They are so irreparably dim that they appear to believe that by stomping on cars, throwing rocks at police, and sucker-punching white people, they will finally quell all doubt about whether they deserve to be here.
Who knows? In these degenerate modern times, they may be right.
Behold the parallel-universe specter of hateful assholes hatefully screaming and hatefully attacking people while toting placards that read STOP THE HATE. Even more absurd is the specter of people who ran screaming from the flaming abyss that is Mexico proudly waving Mexican flags in the USA.
Such is the world we live in.
San Jose’s police chief Eddie Garcia told his men not to intervene in the violence. He implausibly claimed that 250 cops were unable to handle an estimated 400 rioters. He is also, as luck would have it, a proud supporter of La Raza. In other words, a Latino cop who supports a pro-Mexican racial-identity group told his men to stand and watch while Mexicans beat up white people. San Jose’s Latino mayor blamed the violence on Trump rather than the actual perpetrators of the violence.

Joel Kotkin just paints what he sees.
The great tragedy for Trump is that the basis for a grass-roots-led Republican victory lay within his grasp. He could have been, like Ronald Reagan in 1980, the instrument of populist revolt had he shown the same wit, self-control and positive eloquence. Instead, his crudity, his barely disguised racial stereotyping and his obsession with himself has taken from the GOP, at least for this election cycle, the possibility of reaping an enormous windfall from the widespread alienation of the populace from the political and economic ruling class.
As the North Vietnamese General said to the American General in response to the American’s claim that the North Vietnamese had never won on the battlefield, ‘That is very true. It is also irrelevant.’
One can generously concede all of the criticisms anyone might choose to make of Trump without touching on the core reality of the situation: No matter how imperfect a vessel for populist revolt against the ruling class Trump might be, he won because he was the only horse in this particular race.
No other Republican candidate presented himself (or herself) as potential standard bearer of ‘the widespread alienation of the populace from the political and economic ruling class’.
In politics, as in warfare, you fight with the candidate you have, not the candidate you wish you had.

As you may have noticed today, after years of ignoring the concept of “citizenism,” the mainstream media has suddenly converted en masse to citizenism of the most fundamentalist kind: the Orlando shooter was a U.S. citizen. What more do you need to know?
But, being a curious sort, I’m wondering how his father, Seddique Mir Mateen, got to the United States from Afghanistan so the terrorist could be born an anchor baby in New York in 1987.

As information regarding the terrorist who murdered dozens of people at a gay club in Orlando, Florida emerged, the question arose whether the attack was “ISIS inspired.” But Andy McCarthy argues that “the inspiration for Muslims to brutalize and mass murder gay people does not come from ISIS; it is deeply rooted in Islamic law, affirmed by many of Islam’s most renowned scholars.”
Before getting to the renowned scholars, it’s worth noting, as McCarthy does (citing the Washington Post), that there are ten Muslim countries where homosexuality may be punished by death. They are Yemen, Iran, Mauritania, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, United Arab Emirates, and Iraq.

Officials said he had previously been on the radar of investigators, he had been cleared and was not currently being investigated.
Of course not — that would be ‘Islamophobic’ and raaaaaaacist.
His father, Mir Seddique, told NBC News his son had become angry a couple of months ago when he saw two men kissing in Miami, and he believed that could be related to the shooting.
Oh, ya think?
He said the incident had “nothing to do with religion”.
And if you believe that one, he’ll tell you another one.
“What is clear is he was a person filled with hatred,” said President Barack Obama.
Much like Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. He was a registered Democrat, as all such people are; perhaps he ought to have run for President (after all, he was an American citizen).
Asked if the FBI suspected the gunman might have had inclinations toward militant Islam, including a possible sympathy for Islamic State, Ronald Hopper, an assistant FBI agent in charge, told reporters: “We do have suggestions that the individual may have leanings toward that particular ideology. But right now we can’t say definitively.”
Apparently calling 911 and pledging allegiance to ISIS is just a prank.

Just think: If Trump’s ban on Muslims coming to this country had been in place, he would not have been born here, but over there.
That strikes me as a bullet that we failed to dodge.

As defined by Harvard scholars Edward L. Glaeser and Andrei Shleifer in a famous 2002 article, the Curley effect (named after its prototype, James Michael Curley, a four-time mayor of Boston in the first half of the 20th century) is a political strategy of “increasing the relative size of one’s political base through distortionary, wealth-reducing policies.” Translation: A politician or a political party can achieve long-term dominance by tipping the balance of votes in their direction through the implementation of policies that strangle and stifle economic growth. Counterintuitively, making a city poorer leads to political success for the engineers of that impoverishment.
Here’s an example of how the Curley effect works: Let’s say a mayor advocates and adopts policies that redistribute wealth from the prosperous to the not-so-prosperous by bestowing generous tax-financed favors on unions, the public sector in general, and select corporations. These beneficiaries become economically dependent on their political patrons, so they give them their undivided electoral support—e.g., votes, campaign contributions, and get-out-the-vote drives.
This is the constant Democrat agenda: Make more and more people dependent on government handouts so they will more and more vote for the party of government handouts, i.e. Democrats.

I’ve recently had occasion to think about dating and its attendant rituals for a piece in this magazine, and so my eye was caught, the other week, by an article in the New York Post that suggested that one of the institution’s foremost traditions might be undergoing some change. “Cheap Bros Have Found a New Way to Get Out of Paying for Dates,” the headline read. In the fashion of a modern-day fable, the piece quotes three young women who had gone out with three young men. Each guy paid for his date’s dinner or drinks, as guys who go out with women are generally expected to do. Each then used Venmo, the peer-to-peer payment app, to request that his date reimburse her share after the fact. The women were outraged and contemptuous. “I do not have time for scrubs,” one said, speaking for all. They had expected to be treated, not treated as debtors.
So much for feminism.

My name is Hilda and I’m a good friend of Edward Cline, an American author and patriot who has recently become a target of political correctness and cowards. If you are someone who believes that political correctness is destroying our country, I’m asking for your help. By helping Ed Cline you are taking a stand against those who attempt to silence Americans that speak out against Islamic terrorism. Yes, Ed Cline, is under threat of eviction from his home here in America because he writes about the threat of Islamic terrorism. His landlord gave him a tenancy termination notice, because his landlord learned that Ed was visited by the FBI/NCIS to inform him that his “Rule of Reason” column and his books, “Islam’s Reign of Terror” and “A Handbook on Islam” along with his novel, “The Black Stone ” have attracted the attention of ISIS and other terrorist groups. The FBI agent who visited him said that he is in no imminent danger, but the landlord believes that his presence on the property poses a risk to other tenants and has asked him to vacate the apartment.
Ed lives in Virginia and is quite sensibly moving to Texas.
He is nearly 70 years old. He cannot afford to move or to hire legal counsel because as a self-published writer his income is minimal. In contributing whatever you can, Ed will be able to find another place to relocate to another state that is more welcoming and friendlier to Americans who exercise their right to freedom of speech. Thank you for your contribution. Please share this link with other patriotic Americans.

As a climate skeptic I couldn’t care less about recycling, carbon footprints, “lights on” Earth Hour, or any of the other claptrap associated with the green religion. But the breathtakingly wasteful lifestyle choices of the allegedly green “Millennials” put my efforts to enjoy the advantages of consumerist living to shame.
Sure, it’s fun to slag on Millenials, but they grew up in a world far different from those who love to beat on them. My generation ate cereal for breakfast because it was less work than a cooked breakfast, which was the only alternative. (No Egg McMuffin’s in the ’50s.) Millenials are making the same choices, but with a different range of options. I can get the cereal box out, get out a bowl, pour the cereal into the bowl, get out the milk, pour the milk on the cereal, put the milk back in the fridge, get out a spoon, sit down, eat the cereal, put the bowl and spoon on the counter or in the dishwasher OR I can grab an Egg McMuffin (or — shudder — a ‘breakfast taco’), eat it while travelling or doing something else, and throw the wrapper in the trash. The difference in convenience is the same as the difference between a fixed land-line phone versus a cell phone.

American corporations are under new scrutiny from federal lawmakers after well-publicized episodes in which the companies laid off American workers and gave the jobs to foreigners on temporary visas.
But while corporate executives have been outspoken in defending their labor practices before Congress and the public, the American workers who lost jobs to global outsourcing companies have been largely silent.
Until recently. Now some of the workers who were displaced are starting to speak out, despite severance agreements prohibiting them from criticizing their former employers.
Such agreements are almost universal — sign and get money, don’t and walk bare. If you don’t sign, they know you’re going to sue, so they have notice.

Laser technology has been used by archaeologists in Cambodia to reveal multiple vast medieval cities buried under the tropical forest floor – some of them believed to be larger than the country’s capital Phnom Penh.
Researchers believe the metropolises are between 900 and 1,400 years old and lie not far from Angkor Wat, an ancient temple complex in north east Cambodia.

Despite some recent budgetary setbacks, a long-running American experiment in socialism is still going strong, and yet somehow it remains one of the country’s best-kept secrets.
The federal experiment involves 1.3 million Americans—less than 1% of the population, but 75% of the participants are themselves millennials, so Bernie’s supporters should feel right at home. Unless they feel like they’ve arrived in socialist heaven.
