Did some work years ago for a can manufacturing plant next to a brewery. It was pretty interesting. Most impressive is the printing process, which occurs in a short area about the length of the can, as the cans are rapidly conveyed through it. There’s a lot of detail in that printing. The can tops were made at a different plant and shipped in. They’re not aluminum, but rather an alloy of aluminum and magnesium. When cans are melted down for recycle, chlorine is used to remove the magnesium (as slag). It’s not quite as environmentally friendly as the industry advertises. It also burns off the coating inside the can. The plant was shut down some years ago, along with the brewery. One of the most stupidly run companies I’ve ever come across.
