Dog-Whistle Expert Falls Prey to Dog-Whistle Experts

30th November 2018

Read it.

The argument against Lamont Hill seems to be that he deployed a “dog whistle” — that is, that by using the phrase “from the river to the sea,” he signaled to the more clued-in and pernicious members of his audience that what he really covets is the destruction of Israel. Hill vehemently denies this: “My reference to ‘river to the sea’ was not a call to destroy anything or anyone,” he wrote yesterday on Twitter. “It was a call for justice, both in Israel and in the West Bank/Gaza. The speech very clearly and specifically said those things. No amount of debate will change what I actually said or what I meant.”

The Chattering Class are fond of the term ‘dog-whistle’, never pondering the fact that a subtle message audible only to BadThinkers and them pretty much puts them in the BadThinker bucket. Remember: If you hear the dog-whistle, then you’re the dog.

Louisiana School Famous for Rags-to-Riches Ivy League Acceptances Exposed as Fraud

30th November 2018

Read it.

T.M. Landry College Preparatory School in Lousiana made headlines with a series of viral videos showing their students reacting to news that they’d been accepted to Ivy League Universities.

But a new report from The New York Times has exposed the dark underbelly of the school that once boasted “a 100-percent college acceptance rate.”

According to the report, transcripts were doctored and extracurricular activities were invented. Students were encouraged to lie about their family situations in order to make their successes appear even more dramatic. And students and teachers alike described a “culture of abuse” that was widespread.

If something is too good to be true, it is usually false.

When you reward certain types of behavior, you get more of it.

Quotation of the Day

30th November 2018

‘But if the Republican Party cannot get some grip of the actual world we live in and from it generalize and actively promote a program that means something to the masses of people–why, somebody else will. Then there will be nothing to argue. The voters will simply vote Republicans into singularity. The Republican Party will become like one of those dark little shops which apparently never sell anything. If, for any reason, you go in, you find at the back an old man, fingering for his own pleasure some oddments of cloth. Nobody wants to buy them, which is fine because the old man is not really interested in selling. He just likes to hold and to feel….’  — Whittaker Chambers, Witness, 50th Anniversary Edition, page x.

Male Authority – Provisioning vs. Duty

30th November 2018

Rollo Tomassi looks at some inconvenient truth.

How many men hold a default Frame in their marriage? Many women are reluctant to even accept their husband’s last name today. There’s a lot of bullshit reasons for this, but the core truth is that women have no confidence in their man in the long term. They don’t trust his ‘course’. There’s holding Frame, and then there’s establishing a long term Frame, a paradigm, a reality of his own, that defines a man’s authority in his marriage and family relationships. Women today still want marriage, but few want to defer to their husband’s ‘course’. They don’t trust him with her life.

And why would they? For the past four or five generations men have been portrayed in popular culture as untrustworthy. Either they are Beta buffoons in need of women’s uniquely female ‘reasoning’ (which is really male reasoning with breasts) to save them from themselves, or they’re malicious Alpha malcontents (or perverts) also in need of female correction to bring them to female approved justice. It’s the retribution fantasy of feminism played out in popular media, but the societal result is generations of women who have no inherent respect of men and even less trust in any beneficial course they might plot out for them as future wives.

Google is Micro-Gaslighting Again

30th November 2018

Steve Sailer turns over a rock.

For example, back in early 2010, I pointed out that Google had gone out of its way to not suggest “Pat Buchanan” as the auto-complete for “Pat Bu”, suggesting “Pat Buttram,” who played Mr. Haney on “Green Acres” and a whole bunch of even more obscure people whose names started “Pat Bu” but not Pat Buchanan. It stayed like that for quite some time, and then it stopped.

But almost nobody anywhere else ever mentioned this.

I tend to doubt that these kind of micro-gaslights are part of some grand plan that comes down from Larry and Sergey. Maybe it’s part of Google’s culture that hard workers are rewarded by being allowed to screw over a few people they don’t like?

Google Employees Debated Burying Conservative Media In Search

30th November 2018

Read it.

Google employees debated whether to bury conservative media outlets in the company’s search function as a response to President Donald Trump’s election in 2016, internal Google communications obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation reveal.

The Daily Caller and Breitbart were specifically singled out as outlets to potentially bury, the communications reveal.

Trump’s election in 2016 shocked many Google employees, who had been counting on Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton to win.

Communications obtained by TheDCNF show that internal Google discussions went beyond expressing remorse over Clinton’s loss to actually discussing ways Google could prevent Trump from winning again.

My, what a surprise. Aren’t you surprised? I’m sure surprised.

Racism in ‘Harper’s Magazine’

29th November 2018

Read it.

There’s a certain type of black public intellectual who is becoming increasingly common. A leftist identitarian, as it were, his constant subject is racism—namely, what he believes to be the ongoing systemic white oppression of blacks.

His justification for this belief, however, is quite facile. He references group differences (or inequalities) and the past slavery and other past mistreatments of blacks, as if these things by themselves suffice to prove his case. They don’t—not even close.

What is more, for all his indignation and high-toned words, in many instances, it’s plainly he himself who is the racist. What really bothers this hypocrite, his reasoning reveals, is not racial injustice, but lack of black dominance. He is motivated by envy, not righteousness. He wants power, not equality.

Krise Transportation employees Marcia Williams and Karen Wunz are challenging the NLRB’s “settlement bar” rule that prevents workers from challenging a union for a set amount of time after a settlement.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has paid $424,000 to insure itself against a significant drop in tuition revenue from Chinese students.

In what is thought to be a world first, the colleges of business and engineering at the university signed a three-year contract with an insurance broker to pay the annual six-figure sum, which provides coverage of up to $60 million.

The university came up with the idea in 2015 and implemented it last year but received permission from the broker to discuss it in public only earlier this month.

Two days after the mid-term elections, The Washington Post published an analysis under the headline “These wealthy neighborhoods delivered Democrats the House majority.” That headline is false in several different ways, but it is being repeated among a large group of the punditry because it fits into a class narrative that sees affluent, college-educated white people who live in suburbs as citadels of tolerant decency while white folks without bachelor’s degrees, wherever they live, are wall-to-wall racist and sexist xenophobes.

Our Rotten Liberal Arts Colleges

29th November 2018

Read it.

I have a hypothesis that I’ve not yet published anywhere, but it seems like the propitious time has arrived. My hypothesis is that while places like Berkeley, Colorado/Boulder, the University of Wisconsin, etc. have the rap for being the most politically correct and radical institutions of higher education, in fact they are relatively sane compared to small, elite private liberal arts colleges.

That ought not to be any surprise. Major liberal arts colleges skim off the cream of the PhD factory, and such people have to have a demonstrated commitment to scholarship along with any ideological baggage they’re carrying. The smaller colleges get the remnants, those who got their degrees by parroting radical gibberish rather than making an actual contribution to their field. By this point in the proglodyte ‘march through the institutions’, they have aged into control of their peripheral institutions and see nothing wrong with making them over into progressive re-education camps.

Alumni of liberal arts colleges should look closely before making donations. And no one should send their kids to Williams or Sarah Lawrence.

Good advice in any case.

Is Nationalism Really the Future of Conservatism?

29th November 2018

Read it.

Nationalism is a hot topic right now on the American right. All of the pointy-headed conservatives are penning thoughtful essays on the subject, reflecting on why and how we should love our country. At first glance, this might seem like a strange controversy, since patriotic fervor has always been fairly fashionable among conservatives. It’s a burning issue now, though, because some hope to replace the semi-defunct body of thought that we used to call “conservatism” with an energetic and robust nationalism.

(a) There is no such thing as ‘conservatism’ as the author of this piece uses the term. There is no political platform that everyone who considers himself (or herself) ‘conservative’ agrees on and universally supports, ‘semi-defunct’ or not. So the ‘conservatism’ being discussed is a figment of the author’s imagination.

(b) There has never been anyone arguably described as ‘conservative’ who was not a ‘nationalist’ in some sense. But what sense ‘nationalism’ is a component of ‘conservatism’ is not discussed; the author just talks about ‘nationalism’ as if it were one unitary concept that everybody knows and agrees on.

(c) Nationalism in some form has always been a part of the past of ‘conservatism’, so it’s not difficult to imagine that it will serve some role in its future. But to label it ‘the future of conservatism’ suggests a simple-mindedness concerning which the author ought to feel some embarrassment, and maybe do a reality check with one of the ‘pointy-headed conservatives’ she disparages.
