{"id":88370,"date":"2013-04-02T18:38:36","date_gmt":"2013-04-03T00:38:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dyspepsiageneration.com\/?p=88370"},"modified":"2013-04-02T18:38:36","modified_gmt":"2013-04-03T00:38:36","slug":"what-is-the-purpose-of-insurance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dyspepsiageneration.com\/?p=88370","title":{"rendered":"What Is the Purpose of Insurance?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gregmankiw.blogspot.com\/2013\/03\/what-is-purpose-of-insurance.html\" target=\"_blank\">Greg Mankiw<\/a>, a Real Economist, isn&#8217;t afraid to ask the hard questions.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A friend points me to this passage:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 At a White House briefing Tuesday, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said some of what passes for health insurance today is so skimpy it can&#8217;t be compared to the comprehensive coverage available under the law. &#8220;Some of these folks have very high catastrophic plans that don&#8217;t pay for anything unless you get hit by a bus,&#8221; she said. &#8220;They&#8217;re really mortgage protection, not health insurance.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I have the same problem with my other insurance policies.\u00a0 My homeowner insurance doesn&#8217;t cover the cost when my gutters need cleaning, and my car insurance doesn&#8217;t cover the cost when I need to fill the tank with gas. Instead, the policies cover only catastrophic events, like my house burning down or a major accident.
