We have seen the future, and it sucks.

“We may soon find out what happened to much of Saddam’s WMD”

31st July 2012

Read it.

Invincible Armor links to a piece at Investors.com alleging that Iraq transferred its chemical weapons to Syria shortly before the U.S. launched Operation Iraqi Freedom.

“As Sada told the New York Sun, two Iraqi Airways Boeings were converted to cargo planes by removing the seats, and special Republican Guard units loaded the planes with chemical weapons materials.

Can’t wait to see how the Voices of the Crust will spin this one.

Hey, hey, hey, I think we all know “Bush lied and people died” don’t mess with the sound bites!

  2. Dennis Nagle Says:

We already knew that Saddam had chemical weapons; he used them against the Shia between the gulf wars.
Bush sold the war on the fear that Iraq might have biological and/or nuclear weapons, which they would pass on to Al Quaida or some other terrorist group. That was the lie.

If we were to invade every tin-pot dictatorship that we suspected has chemical weapons, we’d never have time for anything else.

I don’t remember that even being mentioned by the administration in the lead-up to the war.

Of course, if the OP is right, it turns out that Saddam actually did send the stuff out, making Bush right.

I wonder if Dennis knows how much enjoyment it brings to Conservatives to watch the Left trying to defend Saddam Hussein.

The facts are apparently too close to your face. Unbelievable. The excrement that was shoved in my face at the time was, “Where’s the WMD? No WMD, this is a war for oil.” Or, “He’s just trying to finish what his daddy didn’t do.”

It’s no relief to me, I assure you, but I maintained that they did exist and the real concern is, where they are.

Let’s take a moment to remember how apoplectic the left was about waiting for UN approval and exploring every possible way to delay the invasion… uh, I mean “exhaust diplomatic solutions”. Let’s think about all the crap that was done to slow the action against Iraq. Giving aid to our sworn enemy in ridding himself of the WMD. Now, lets lay the responsibility for the WMD being stored in a powder keg (that is now in the process of exploding) at the feet of those so called Americans. These so called Americans then used the results of the aid they gave to our enemies as an excuse to turn American sentiment against the war that they themselves voted for!! Unconscionable!! Only a Liberal could sleep at night after such self serving treachery.

And don’t tell me Saddam wasn’t in the business of training terrorist. Salman Pac, Training Camps in Northern Iraq, 2000 chemical weapons suits in Baghdad bunkers, were not for the boy scouts.

    Lame Dennis. Absolutely lame.

  5. Dennis Nagle Says:

@ RealRick: You don’t remember it? I do. Oh, they were very cagey about it, always referring to the broad category of WMD so as to cover their asses if something went wrong (which it did), but since they already knew he had chemical weapons and yet hadn’t done anything about him up to that time, the logical conclusion in a normally rational mind was that there must be something more at stake. And what could that ‘something more’ be except either nuclear or biological? But they scoured the countryside far and wide looking for anything Big and Scary, and found nothing of any real concern.

And there is no defense of Saddam; he was an asshole. But his being an asshole didn’t compromise our national interests. And it wasn’t reason enough to descend on that shit-pile sand dune and spend 10 years, many billions of dollars, and unnecessary lives on a wild goose chase.

@ Whitehawk: I find it difficult to follow your Byzantine reasoning, but here’s a few things I did glean:

“Giving aid to our sworn enemy in ridding himself of the WMD” Saddam wasn’t our ‘sworn enemy’. He was just an asshole. And nobody ‘aided’ him, except by accident (if at all). The fact was, and still is, we didn’t need to invade Iraq. He was no more danger to us than half a dozen other tinhat puffed-up mini-Stalins around the world, and we didn’t see–and haven’t seen–any need to go to war with them.

Don’t be so quick on the draw, Wyatt; save your bullets for a real threat.

“lets lay the responsibility for the WMD being stored in a powder keg…at the feet of those so called Americans.” So Saddam would never have given Syria any chemical weapons, ever, had it not been for the delay in the invasion? You have some magical way of predicting how a madman will jump? I think not.

  6. Dennis Nagle Says:

Here’s a thought that just occurred to me:
If we were after WMD, and we knew (supposedly) that said WMD had been moved to Syria, why didn’t we invade Syria instead?

  7. Whitehawk Says:

**The fact was, and still is, we didn’t need to invade Iraq. He was no more danger to us than half a dozen other tinhat puffed-up mini-Stalins around the world, and we didn’t see–and haven’t seen–any need to go to war with them.**

Oh, you mean guys like Osama bin Laden. Cause I would love to hear your explanation of the difference between him and Saddam (other than Saddam having more resources at his disposal). I guess you’re right Dennis. What am I in such a dither about? (I content we are at war with them. And Mr Obama is acting consistently with this assertion, using drones and Navy Seals to take them out all the time.)

“And nobody ‘aided’ him, except by accident (if at all).” So the democrats in office voting for the invasion then stalling with all their might was an accident. Happy accident for Saddam. In essence we announced our intention to invade, then gave him cover/time to remove the WMD. Those same Liberals then used the absence of WMD to call Bush a fool and indict our intelligence community (and you continue to hold that line???). Right. That was all an accident. The Dems knew/know full well Saddam’s WMD is a reality. It is now a matter of finding it.

**And what could that ‘something more’ be except either nuclear or biological? But they scoured the countryside far and wide looking for anything Big and Scary, and found nothing of any real concern.**

You said yourself above the that we knew he had WMD. He had already used them. Which is it? He had them or he didn’t.

**So Saddam would never have given Syria any chemical weapons, ever, had it not been for the delay in the invasion? You have some magical way of predicting how a madman will jump? I think not.**

You just said Saddam was not a threat. I think you called him “just an asshole”. So you are now saying he was a threat, admitting the proliferation of WMD a likelihood. Good to see you are coming around.

And you say I’m hard to follow?
