What is being celebrated here is the passing of the ideological baton to a younger generation of brain-laundry graduates. The article is for the purpose of reassuring the Chattering Class that they’re on the ‘right side of history’.
The ‘adults’ being ‘called to account’ aren’t the people pushing gun control — in what region of The Press is that message not dominant? — but rather the ‘adults’ opposing ‘gun control’ … although the pro-gun-control people never seem to get around to telling us why somebody might possibly think it reasonable to oppose ‘gun control’; they’re just Heretics and Sinners who must be burned at the stake.
