    I think the government recognizes someone as being “Native American” for purposes of tribal benefits up to 1/64th native blood. So, yeah, you can be pretty “dilute” and still be Cherokee.

    Rather like being ‘black’.

    A black friend of mine pointed out that he understood our fear of mixing races since “any” black genes would render a white person “colored”, while no matter how much “white” was in a black person, he would still be considered black.

    I was too confused by the sudden addition of this statement in a completely unrelated discussion and didn’t pursue it further.
