The assumption is that (a) you ought to care about this and (b) you ought to drop everything else and do something about this.
My immediate response to such articles, a favorite in the Modern Media, is ‘So what?’
Come to think of it, that’s also my immediate response to OH MY GOD GLOBAL WARMING WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE.
I’ll bet there’s a relationship there….
