Slavery is still clandestinely practiced in Muslim countries — it wasn’t officially abolished in Saudi Arabia until the 1960s — and there has never been an anti-slavery movement in the Muslim umma.

That’s disgusting. I hope the state extracted a tidy sum for underpaid work and, above all, compensation.

That’s the quote under the picture of the girl. Geez, she wasn’t a “domestic worker”, she was a house slave. Now why would the reporter mince words like that?
