In any bureaucracy, the people devoted to the benefit of the bureaucracy itself always get in control and those dedicated to the goals the bureaucracy is supposed to accomplish have less and less influence, and sometimes are eliminated entirely.
Byte magazine was incredibly influential in the early days of modern computing. Hard to believe that enough years have gone by that the early leaders would be dying. Harder still to believe that very few users still remember their names.
