The murder rate in Mexico is not due to some innate penchant for violence in Mexicans, it’s due to an enthusiastic and energetic application of The Invisible Hand; maximize profit by eliminating the competition. Pure capitalism. High demand (for drugs in the US) fuels competition to supply the demand.
Of course if we legalized drugs, there would be many more suppliers which would take the high profits out of the equation. There would no longer be an incentive to kill the competition to maintain monopoly.
Markets work even when you wish they wouldn’t.
