Read it.

I guess Californians are too stupid to think of that.

  1. Kakola Says:

We checked on the feasibility of towed icebergs when I studied Engineering fifty years ago. It was not the most economic way of providing water to equatorial areas. I doubt that conditions have changed much.

  2. RealRick Says:

As Kakola points out, that was a popular idea in the 70’s. The cost was way too much.

Amerada Hess set up a pilot project to fill oil tankers with fresh water to send to Saudi Arabia back in the ’80’s. (The Saudis used to complain that a barrel of water cost them more than they were getting for a barrel of oil.) A treatment system was set up to clean any residual oil or rust out of the water before discharge. The Saudis reacted in sheer horror at the idea and Hess shut down the project immediately.

Don’t be surprised to read that as a “new” proposal..
