Oregon: Bakers’ Statements to National Media Were “Unlawful”

8th July 2015

Read it.

Most of us probably assume that if legal charges are filed against us and we consider them unjust, we have a First Amendment right to raise a ruckus in the press. But last week’s controversial Oregon cake ruling suggests that some public officials are not so sure about that.

This decision is very disturbing. Hopefully it will be overturned on appeal, but the fact that it was entered in the first place is frightening.

At one time it was against the law for blacks to drink from certain fountains, eat at certain restaurants, vote, etc. When MLK stood up against these unfair laws, this Oregon court would have slapped him down for it. The First Amendment was CLEARLY intended to allow people the right to rally others to their cause.

But that was back when The Constitution was considered an important document and not something to be used when you run out of Charmin.

My guess is that this ruling will stand – largely because it will be supported by the feds.

Nothing going on in the world – not war, not terrorism, not taxes, not anything – should scare people more than the erosion of our rights under The Constitution.
